Madeleine Swann and Bond’s first meeting in Spectre gets off to a rocky start, but not before Bond sneaks in some playful flirting ahead of her psychological evaluation. When Swann says the above line and closes the shades for privacy and Bond responds with “I hadn’t noticed,” it perfectly captures Craig’s blunt, straightforward approach with women. Swann’s eventual backlash in the scene shows she isn’t impressed, especially when Bond reveals the truth about her father’s suicide and insists on protecting her. It’s a pretty awkward scene.
There’s chemistry between Bond and Swann, but I was never fully convinced by their connection. Their relationship had interesting moments, but it never quite reached the emotional weight the movie intended.
