Bond dodged bullet with failed Disney bid

Former Disney CEO Bob Iger recently confirmed that Disney made a bid to purchase the James Bond franchise when it was available in 2022. Thankfully, that particular mission failed.

I say “thankfully” because while I am not exactly celebrating the Amazon MGM era either, I do think Disney would’ve been an even more questionable fit for 007. Ideally, Bond and MGM would have remained independent rather than becoming another prize in the ongoing corporate battle for valuable entertainment brands.

The encouraging sign is that Amazon MGM appears focused on getting Bond 26 moving rather than flooding the market with endless 007 content. Disney has found success with Star Wars projects like Andor, but the franchise has also stumbled with releases that left some fans questioning its direction and diluting the product.

I’m not sure I could’ve stomached a failed Jinx James Bond spinoff series on Disney+…

I forgot that in Goldfinger he unexpectedly lands there aboard Goldfinger’s Lockheed JetStar with Pussy Galore after getting knocked out with a tranquilizer gun.  Almost as unexpected for Bond to set foot in the state of Kentucky of all places.
