James Bond, posing as Sir Hilary Bray, quickly accepts Irma Bunt’s explanation for the heavy security and armed guards surrounding Piz Gloria. Although he’s technically undercover as a genealogist, his observation about the world feels remarkably prescient, perhaps even more so today than it did when On Her Majesty’s Secret Service was released in 1969.

Today, the unchecked influence of billionaires and oligarchs would provide fertile ground for a Bond villain who doesn’t need an army when money, political influence and corruption are at their fingertips. An oligarch with enough wealth to manipulate governments, destabilize markets and quietly eliminate anyone standing in his way could make for an awesome Bond adversary. As I’ve mentioned before, I’d like future Bond films to keep their plot mechanics relatively simple. A modern villain built around avarice and deceit would fit that philosophy perfectly, especially if his wealth and influence were his greatest weapons.

And frankly, Avarice & Deceit sounds like a great Bond movie title that would be an awesome nod to OHMSS!
