In Casino Royale, it is surprisingly satisfying to hear Bond order his famous shaken, not stirred martini at the poker table, only for several of the other players to immediately join him. “Three measures of Gordon’s, one of vodka, half a measure of Kina Lillet,” Bond specifies, before instructing the bartender to shake it over ice and add a thin slice of lemon peel. Le Chiffre’s growing annoyance at the majority of players stopping the game for their drinks only makes the exchange funnier, while also giving Bond’s signature order a rare moment of communal appreciation.

Felix Leiter gets in on the order as well, but in true Leiter fashion, he casually asks for his without the lemon peel. Geoffrey Wright’s Leiter has a wonderfully understated confidence, rarely needing to dominate a conversation when a dry remark can make the point for him. His request to “keep the fruit” is perfectly in character with his glib attitude. It’s a small moment, but reinforces Wright’s cool.
