I’ve got M. We’re about to disappear.

Here’s the exact line in Skyfall where I think the screenplay briefly loses its footing. The idea that the head of MI6 would simply vanish into hiding with a single field agent stretches my suspension of disbelief further than the movie earns. I normally avoid measuring James Bond against real-world intelligence procedures, but this decision becomes even harder to accept once the action shifts to Bond’s childhood home for its improvised last stand.

It feels as though the writers became hesitant to keep the climax centered in London after spending so much time establishing Silva as a public terrorist willing to cause chaos in broad daylight. I would have preferred the story to lean further into that escalating threat instead of retreating to a remote estate nearly 500 miles from the city. The result is still entertaining, but the final act loses some of the momentum and scale that the London sequences had built so effectively.

The Madonna cameo?  Not so much… But it’s probably be the best swordfight scene of the entire franchise.  And I can’t help but let out a sigh when Frost stops the madness – it gets pretty intense!
