Remakes are completely off the table, right?

Although I’d be curious to see Denis Villeneuve tackle a remake of Moonraker, I have a hard time believing a direct remake of any previous Bond film or even a faithful adaptation of a single Fleming novel is seriously under consideration. I can certainly imagine Bond 26 borrowing a title, a plot element, or a forgotten character as a respectful nod to the source material. That feels far more likely than revisiting a film audiences already know scene for scene.

With a new actor and a new era beginning under Amazon MGM, the opportunity to establish a fresh identity seems far too valuable to pass up. A remake would invite constant comparisons instead of giving the next Bond the chance to stand on his own. If Bond 26 is meant to generate excitement for the future, looking forward is a much stronger statement than looking back.
