R-rated Bond movie piques my interest

Licence to Kill probably came closest to earning an R rating, with its shark feedings and several surprisingly brutal deaths pushing the boundaries of what audiences expected from a Bond movie at the time. And really, keeping the series PG-13 has always made sense from a box office perspective.

That said, I’d still love to see one R-rated Bond movie just to see what the filmmakers could do with the extra creative freedom. Nothing excessive or gratuitous, of course. Just a slightly harder edge with stronger language, tasteful nudity, and non-gratuitous violence that serves the story. Think Deadpool & Wolverine or a Tarantino movie, but unmistakably James Bond. Sign me up!

I’ve thought this when leaving the theater after seeing a Bond movie for the first time…almost every time! My opinion adjusts obviously shortly after, but there’s nothing like the initial thrill of seeing a James Bond movie in the theater.  No Time To Die is my exception…I felt sick leaving the theater after that. 🙁

The Pierce Brosnan/Samantha Bond chemistry for Bond and Moneypenny is often overlooked among Bond fans in my opinion.  Their interaction with her cocktail dress on at the office is classic.  “Moneypenny – what would I do without you?”  “As far as I can remember, James, you never had me.”
