British actor Scott Rose-Marsh recently revealed on Instagram that he auditioned for the role of James Bond in 2021, which is a fascinating tidbit. His claim that the NDA has expired is easily verifiable, and the fact that he’s discussing it publicly suggests there’s little concern about pushback from Amazon MGM.
From a fan’s perspective, the timing of auditions just months before the release of No Time to Die is most curious and raises the obvious question of why the search was underway before Craig’s tenure had even concluded on screen. Was Rose-Marsh viewed as a serious contender, or was the casting net simply wider and cast sooner than many assumed?
What I find most puzzling is the potential reasoning for keeping this information secret for so long, since a few early audition stories would’ve helped satiate my thirst in this lingering desert of Bond news since the No Time To Die’s premiere. Seems like a bad move for the marketing of James Bond, which is par for the course, unfortunately, and something I’ve pointed out on numerous occasions for years.
Or perhaps I’m reading things completely wrong and Rose-Marsh’s audition went terribly so that’s why they didn’t want it as a news item, or maybe there are other former hopefuls whose NDAs have also quietly expired – if that’s the case, reveal yourselves!
