As much as I love GoldenEye and its excellent Trevelyan revenge plot, this line from 006 at the start always leaves me wanting to see one of their previous missions. It’s the word “again” that hints at a history of successful missions shared by Bond and 006, making their partnership instantly believable and making me want to see more. Their chemistry and banter are among the movie’s greatest strengths, which makes this line feel like we’ve missed joint missions that’dd be worth watching in their own right.

Instead, the movie drops us in at the moment their partnership begins to unravel. That choice ultimately serves the story well and makes Trevelyan’s betrayal hit harder because their friendship feels genuine from the outset. But I’d still love to see a triumphant 006 and 007 take a victory lap after a successful mission and bask in the afterglow.
