The Man With The Golden Gun (1974)

“A green Rolls?” “A Green! Rolls! Royce!”

Few aspects of Roger Moore’s portrayal of James Bond are as entertaining as his barely concealed irritation, and nowhere is that more evident than in The Man with the Golden Gun. The movie gives Moore a rare opportunity to lean into Bond’s exasperation largely thanks to the well-meaning but persistently hapless Mary Goodnight, whose talent for misunderstanding situations seems almost engineered to test his patience. Despite his sarcastic delivery in the above exchange, Moore’s refined English accent and smooth voice elevates a simple sarcastic comment into something genuinely funny. It’s a small example of Moore’s humorous appeal.
