I keep returning to the first Bond movie for a lesson in doing more with less. The intercom interrogation of Professor Dent in Dr. No is a perfect example. By keeping Dr. No unseen, the scene’s tension can only build with the increasingly agitated Dr. No. And because he’s faceless, Dent can’t intimidate or gain any leverage in the conversation. The power imbalance exhibited in the dynamic is very apparent, where a face-to-face version of the same scene would likely fall flat. We can only hope that a future release captures a similar memorable atmosphere.
