There’s a recent report from Knight Edge Media claiming that the search for James Bond in Bond 26 has been whittled down even further, and while these casting rumors should always be taken with a grain of salt, I’ll humor this one because the scenario piques my interest. The report says two previously mentioned candidates from the “double-0 seven” group, Jack O’Connell and Callum Turner, remain in contention alongside an unknown mystery man. That mystery candidate is what makes this report particularly intriguing, although it also gives the reporter a convenient out if the eventual Bond turns out to be someone else entirely.
If I had to choose from these three, I’d roll the dice on the mystery man. Turner is starting to approach the point where his high profile may work against him, particularly with his marriage to Dua Lipa and increasing presence in mainstream movies, while O’Connell is certainly a talented actor but his intense, disturbing performance in Sinners hasn’t exactly sold me on him as a suave secret agent. Both would be wildcards in their own way, so if I’m taking a gamble anyway, I might as well bet on the unknown.
Maybe the next James Bond hasn’t even appeared in reports yet.
