Does Moneypenny’s response to Bond’s proposal of a female-proof secret agent reveal a bit more than intended?
Even in a relatively straightforward exchange, the 1967 Casino Royale spoof finds a way to make a familiar Bond dynamic feel completely off-kilter. Miss Moneypenny, who in the 1960s Bond era is typically composed and observant, instead is tasked with the somewhat empowering activity of finding an agent in the “auxiliary files” that will resist her. It’s quite the assignment, but in the end it’s just an odd ploy to further sexualize her sultry character.
