Time For 007

Should Bond 26’s title address Bond’s death?

Not directly, but I wouldn’t mind a clever nod. If Bond 26 opens with a rebooted 007 carrying on as if nothing happened, a small part of me will inevitably wonder whether we’re really supposed to ignore Bond’s death in No Time to Die. I’d get over it quickly I’m sure, but a title that hints at a rebirth or rising from the ashes would help bridge the gap.

Something like You Only Die Once walks that line rather well. It’s a bit cheeky but unmistakably Bondian and an updated and relevant take on 1967’s You Only Live Twice. It’d be just self-aware enough to acknowledge the (dead) elephant in the room without the need of turning the entire movie into a commentary on the previous one.

Although I have my issues with A View To A Kill, particularly the advanced ages of both Bond and Moneypenny, I still like Zorin’s villainous scheme of causing mass flooding by blowing up the Hayward and San Andreas faults. It’s definitely an inventive act of terrorism, although obviously terrible. Credit to the writers for thinking…

The arguments are few, but they are strong.  Bond not dying at the end of Die Another Day is a big positive, and appropriate for the movie title.
