This Bond quote from Moonraker is clever considering the circumstances, but doesn’t quite hold up under scrutiny. Bond and Dr. Goodhead have not interacted between Venice and Rio, so the remark feels more like a narrative shortcut rather than a plausible statement. Both characters have been busy tracking Drax on separate paths, with Bond notably bedding Manuela and avoiding Jaws’, well, jaws. So how could Bond have experienced a “chilly” demeanor from Goodnight?
I’ll chalk up this quote and really all of Bond and Goodnight’s relationship to lazy writing and convenient pacing. I’m just not sure why they paused their team up that started in Venice. What’s for sure is that when they finally do join forces, the movie is better for it.
