In From Russia with Love, Rosa Klebb’s above assurance to Blofeld comes after she’s overwhelmed with almost confronting her own death. Moments earlier, she seems destined for elimination, visibly unraveling under Blofeld’s scrutiny and Kronsteen’s blame tactics. Then, in a sharp reversal, Blofeld spares her and executes Kronsteen instead. It’s a puzzling turnaround, but it seems like an intense display of Blofeld’s control and dominance. Instead of siding with a calm Kronsteen and his reasonable explanation for the mission failure, Blofeld opts to spare a visibly terrified Klebb, obviously renewing her loyalty and resolve through fear, rather than trust.
This tracks for a criminal organization that replaces names with numbers to reinforce secrecy and hierarchy. That detached, methodical structure is a symptom of S.P.E.C.T.R.E.’s ruthlessness.
