This line from the theme of Thunderball by Tom Jones has me torn. Sure, Bond’s reputation as a womanizer is well-known, but post-Thunderball 007 shows surprising emotional depth. From his tragic marriage to Tracy Draco in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service to the somber graveside visits in For Your Eyes Only and No Time To Die, it’s clear the secret agent has grown a soft spot. It’s even more evident recently, with back-to-back long term relationships over multiple movies with Vesper Lynd and Madeleine Swann. I’d say that I’m not a huge fan of the direction this is taking the character, although maybe I’m more annoyed with how far and how long it’s come to task. Also (sorry, not sorry) I’m not interested in 007 as a parent.
I think it’s time for Bond 26 to flip the script and revive some of 007’s bad habits.
