The Bambi and Thumper sequence in Diamonds Are Forever starts off with real promise: a sleek, modern villa, Bond on the prowl, and an unmistakably groovy Bond theme interpolation to set the mood. But just as the tension starts to simmer, in swoops Bambi and Thumper. What could’ve been a sharp, suspenseful action sequence quickly falls flat as a childish spectacle and contributes to Diamond‘s notorious reputation of campiness. Rather than bullets flying or gadgets whirring, an aging James Bond is manhandled by two unintimidating women. A classic shootout would have given better optics, but oh well.
