In GoldenEye, Natalya Simonova understandably suspects something more suggestive when Boris Grishenko offers his rather cheeky password riddle, “What I sit on but I don’t take with me?” There are certainly plenty of alternative answers involving one’s backside, but Bond cuts through the distraction and gives the obvious answer: “chair.” It’s a tiny exchange, but it’s exactly the kind of clever wordplay that can make a movie feel a little sharper and give Bond fans something to reference 30 years later like I’m doing so with this post. 🙂 You don’t have to be a Bond fan to appreciate a good riddle in a pivotal part of a movie.
