A pet peeve of mine is when James Bond finds himself in a chase involving an unconventional vehicle that is slow and cumbersome but is somehow transformed into a precision stunt machine simply because Bond is behind the wheel. Quantum Of Solace commits this sin a few times, with Bond turning a dilapidated fishing boat into a stunt craft and piloting an old bomber as though it were a fighter jet.
But Licence To Kill takes the concept to another level with Bond’s monster-truck-like abuse of an 18-wheeler. I can almost forgive the spectacular side-wheel maneuver to evade the RPG, which has deservedly become one of the movie’s signature stunts, but Bond then somehow keeps the tanker balanced on two wheels for an absurdly long stretch.
Apparently one absurd tanker truck stunt wasn’t enough, so they decided to go full monster truck and perform a wheelie to somehow shield itself from the flames, although you’d think it would just expose the gas tank to fire more directly this way. Thank god Bond cranked the window up to avoid smoke inhalation!
So for those asking, if I had to choose a James Bond-themed monster truck name, Crush Royale would be my top choice.
