Florida’s Villa Skyfall lacks true Bond inspiration

The extravagant $85 million South Florida estate Villa Skyfall (Zillow listing) is undeniably impressive, but beyond its name and the Aston Martin DB5 parked on site, I struggle to see much genuine James Bond inspiration. A home packed with overt Bond references risks feeling more like a themed attraction than an elegant tribute, so I can understand why there isn’t Bond memorabilia on the walls or explicit references to any movies.

I envision his ideal bachelor pad to definitely be modern, sophisticated and technologically advanced, but less loud visually and more understated for someone who spends so little time at home, especially a house that’s not eight figures in price. That also raises an interesting question about whether any private residence can truly be called Bond-inspired when we’ve only gotten a few glimpses of the character’s personal home life. Although he dabbles in high-class amenities, he’s certainly not a multimillionaire that could afford this kind of property in real life.

It’s much easier to imagine Bond arriving as a guest than settling in as the owner, especially if the property were a luxury hotel or casino. Villa Skyfall feels more like the sort of estate he’d infiltrate rather than inhabit.

Everything about him as an actor is awesome – the look, the voice, the acting. But now he’s too old, even at 48.  His time for Bond was the start of Craig’s career…pity.

Bond and Dr. No had great chemistry during the dinner scene.  Joseph Wiseman’s delivery was particularly awesome – monotone but confident, calm but sinister.
