Anyone actually purchase the Faberge 007 eggs?

Although I’ve had both good and bad experiences with products from the official 007.com store, I’ve always noticed they carry a surprising number of items that feel completely out of reach for the average James Bond movie fan. Sitting well above the understandably expensive Daniel Craig signed memorabilia are a $6,000 fountain pen, a $4,000 backgammon set and, perhaps the biggest head scratcher of all, the Fabergé egg collection ranging from $20,000 to $216,000.

Not content with creating a $150,000-plus Octopussy inspired egg, which is admittedly more attractive than the one seen in the movie, they somehow stretched the collaboration further with a $216,000 Goldfinger inspired design. Unless I completely missed a Fabergé egg subplot in Goldfinger, that one feels especially forced. Surely they could have generated more revenue with a more reasonably priced option?

I can’t help but wonder how many of these are actually sold versus how many simply exist to generate a headline and reinforce the luxury branding. Who exactly is the target customer here, Kamal Khan?

Bond busting through the concrete wall with the Bond theme blaring in GoldenEye is arguably the best usage of the Bond theme in any movie – certainly in any action sequence.  Gives me goosebumps!
