If Denis Villeneuve and Steven Knight want to take Bond somewhere he has never been before, Canada offers an intriguing opportunity. Despite brief mentions in previous movies, Bond has never set foot in the country, leaving Ottawa or Toronto ripe for an international incident.
Bond movies have always reflected contemporary geopolitics without becoming overtly political. Featuring Canada in a more prominent role, while keeping the United States largely off-screen, would subtly acknowledge a shifting international landscape without making it the story itself. More importantly, it would simply give Bond fans a fresh location that has been hiding in plain sight all along.
But what would a Canadian Bond movie plot look like? I’d be onboard with an assassination conspiracy at a major international summit in Ottawa or a criminal network that uses Canada as a gateway for fentanyl trafficking into the United States.
