Octopussy (1983)

One of our specialties. Stuffed sheep’s head.

Bond’s feast with Kamal Khan in Octopussy is an all-time Bond/villain dinner scene. Roger Moore’s queasy reaction when the cooked sheep’s head arrives, eyeballs and all, ranks among his funniest facial expressions, recalling his look of utter dismay after accidentally swallowing Saida’s golden bullet in The Man with the Golden Gun. It’s a completely unsettling but satisfying affair, if that makes sense.

But as disturbing as the dish appears, Kamal Khan casually biting into the sheep’s eye like a grape elevates the scene to another level of culinary horror. The scene has always reminded me of the monkey brains dinner in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and given the timing of Octopussy‘s release and Temple of Doom‘s production, it’s possible Bond influenced Jones.

Regardless, between the two movies, I’m not sure which dinner reservation I’d cancel first, but I’d be sprinting toward the exit either way. Yuck!
