From Russia With Love (1963)

James, behave yourself! We are being filmed.

In From Russia With Love, the closing scene neatly captures the spark between James Bond and Tatiana Romanova. Even after being exposed by Rosa Klebb and the scramble over the Lektor, Romanova makes her choice clear and decisively turns on her former handler. Their PDA-filled gondola ride in Venice shows them in love, with Romanova jokingly calling out tourist photographers with the above line.

Their chemistry is undoubtedly palpable and promising, which makes her absence at least as the start of the next movie, Goldfinger, a missed opportunity. Given how effortlessly she holds her own alongside Bond, a return in the spirit of Sylvia Trench like in Dr. No to Russia might have added a worthwhile sense of continuity to yet another one of his otherwise fleeting romances.

The wait will be torturous.  It already was for regular James Bond movies, now not even knowing what we’ll get from an Amazon Bond movie it’s gonna be worse! 🙁
