While Max Zorin is an effective and memorable antagonist in A View To A Kill, he’s not exactly known for sharp one-liners or eloquent speeches. This quote, which borders on an oxymoron, captures his tendency toward strained wisdom. It sounds meaningful at first, but quickly feels like a poor attempt at being profound.
The moment is made even more curious by his decision to point a gun at his own head while delivering the line, which does little to inspire confidence. If anything, it reinforces the idea that Zorin is unhinged and tries too hard to sound educated with Bond. He wants to impress Bond that his words are significant even when they’re not.
