A recent article in Variety showcases an interview with Courtenay Valenti, head of film at Amazon MGM Studios, at CinemaCon this past week. The above start to her quote to dampen expectations of her speech sums up the marketing for modern Bond movie releases.
Why would the head of film at Amazon MGM Studios tell us to not get excited about Bond 26 or the prospect of a new James Bond actor?! Regardless if it was said tongue-in-cheek, why not have something, ANYTHING, ready to tell the audience at CinemaCon and make headlines that don’t read like this one?!
It’s just a continuation of the boring and uninspired marketing of 007, which has persisted for far too long in modern times. Although I can respect the remainder of the quote’s sentiment that they’re “taking the time to do this with care and deep respect” and to them it’s “a responsibility we don’t take lightly,” between Bond’s stupid death in No Time To Die and the even-expanding (and soon record breaking!) gap between movies, I’m more worried about care and respect getting shown to James Bond fans more than anything.
More news soon, please!
