Tomorrow Never Dies remains my favorite Pierce Brosnan Bond outing, thanks to its sharp pacing, engaging plot, and standout sequences like the remote-controlled BMW 750 chase.
That said, the escape from Carver’s office building highlights a rare misstep. Bond’s above quip upon encountering Wai Lin showcases classic Brosnan wit, but her inclusion in the sequence feels unnecessary. For some reason, she leans on an implausible grappling hook that attaches effortlessly to steel and allows her to descend a few floors by walking vertically down a girder. I have a similar reaction as Bond to this unnecessary move: a double take but also an eye roll. Why not just use a rope?
