Disrespecting Lupe: Diamond necklace for iguana only?

Sanchez’s pet iguana in is one of only a few misses in Licence To Kill. Not only is the companionship just plain weird at face, it gets even weirder when you notice the beautiful Lupe Lamora necklace-less next to the diamond-clad lizard. That’s certainly one way to show where your priorities lie, and another is to kiss the lizard right after Lupe. At least Sanchez had the common courtesy to kiss the iguana second? Ew.

All in all, it comes off as a clumsy nod to the Blofeld/cat dynamic with little to show for it aside from adding to Sanchez’s psychopathy. I wonder if that was the point?
