It’s a bit surprising that James Bond has never been associated with custom vanity plates, even though some of the “boring” ones have lived on (BMT 216A, anybody?). Then again, vehicle registration and cover identities would almost certainly fall under the jurisdiction of MI6 and be handled by Q Branch.
Still, it’s easy to imagine Bond adding a subtle personal touch if given the opportunity. Of all the Bond actors, Roger Moore feels like the most natural fit for that kind of indulgence. Here are my top 007 James Bond-inspired vanity plates. with the first six of my own composition and the final one the best I found when asking ChatGPT. I tried to avoid blatantly obvious ones that would give away Bond’s cover but still lean into his awesomeness (we’ll count the entire list as one entry in my site’s post rules of 007 sentences or less):
- SHKNMRTINI – nod to his drink of choice.
- OHMSS – nobody in Bond’s world technically knows the name of Lazenby’s movie (also note it’d reference “His” the King now, and not “Her” the Queen).
- OHOHMY – subtle reference to his double-0 status but to the unknowing civilian, a believable plate on an exotic.
- VESPER – okay so maybe a bit cheesy and more appropriate for a boat name, but it could still work.
- FYEO – I guess the saying is spy-adjacent, but he could still pull it off.
- OHJAMES – familiar satisfied Bond girl phrase.
- CMDRBND – maybe a giveaway but still cool.
