This poignant quote from The World Is Not Enough is actually taken out of a realistic context and inserted as a flippant comment from Bond just before he and Dr. Christmas Jones defuse a nuclear bomb. And it doesn’t happen in plain view, but in an oil pipeline traveling in an “observation rig” at almost 80 miles per hour in an over-the-top sequence that strains believability.
Just from a logistical standpoint, I doubt that Bond and Dr. Jones would be able to see much of anything traveling at such high speeds without protective eyewear and fighting the windy environment. My eyes roll to the extreme as the scene’s craziness reaches a fever pitch, when the two not only defuse a nuclear bomb at speed, but also somehow survive simply jumping off the fast moving rig without a scratch on their bodies.
Overall, I like the premise of the scene and Elektra King’s nefarious nature at face value, but it quickly turns into a poorly executed implausible spectacle.
