Skyfall (2012)

I’m guessing this isn’t strictly official

Bond’s decision to kidnap M in Skyfall stands out as one of the film’s weaker moments, largely due to its implausibility. The sequence is further undercut by Bond’s exchange with Q, where the talk of complex “breadcrumbs” and cyber-tracking is overblown. In practice, the plan amounts to little more than broadcasting a false signal for Silva to follow, and an idea so rudimentary that Q’s exposition feels unnecessarily grandiose.

If the goal was simply to be tracked, remaining in a government vehicle would have achieved the same effect. Instead, the scene clearly exists to justify more screen time for the Aston Martin DB5. While the nostalgia is acknowledged, it comes at the expense of credibility, and at this point the DB5’s modern reappearances feel increasingly indulgent. Unless Bond returns in a proper 1960s period setting, the callback has long since worn out its welcome for this James Bond fan.
