Licence To Kill (1989)

Character Spotlight: David Hedison as Felix Leiter

When I think of Felix Leiter, David Hedison’s portrayal immediately comes to mind. Others may argue for Jeffrey Wright’s grounded interpretation, but for me, Hedison defines the character. While his debut as Bond’s CIA ally in Live and Let Die felt underplayed and underused, his reappearance in Licence to Kill after an incredible 16-year absence more than compensated for it.

Hedison becomes central to the movie’s narrative, proving that a supporting character can step away for more than a decade and still come back more relevant than ever. His portrayal makes Felix’s vendetta against Sanchez feel deeply personal, at times even overshadowing Bond himself. In Licence to Kill, Hedison delivers one of the most compelling supporting performances in the entire franchise, not just among various Felix Leiters.
