From Russia With Love (1963)

And SPECTRE always delivers what he promises

In From Russia With Love, one of the movie’s most compelling moments comes when the normally iron-willed Rosa Klebb buckles under the scrutiny of Blofeld for her transgressions.  Her composure evaporates as she sweats, stammers, and pleads with Blofeld, revealing a rare glimpse of genuine fear within SPECTRE’s rigid hierarchy.  As they address Grant’s failure aboard the Orient Express to kill Bond, Blofeld’s icy displeasure makes it unmistakably clear: in his organization, failure is fatal.  His warning, punctuated by the above chilling line, underscores the merciless efficiency on which SPECTRE prides itself.

Kronsteen, by contrast, initially exudes confidence, yet his smug certainty lasts only moments before Morzeny’s poison-tipped boot dispatches him in 12 seconds.  It’s fitting, then, that a desperate Klebb later adopts the same spiked-shoe tactic in her ill-fated attempt to kill Bond.   And that ultimately, her own desperation proved to be her undoing.
