The final confrontation between Bond and Hugo Drax in Moonraker may lack the high-octane flair typical of a Bond/villain showdown, but its restraint feels oddly fitting. Drax was never a villain built for brute force or chaos, so it’s no surprise he put up a lackluster fight. His death, punctuated by his own pretentious turn of phrase and a poetic exit into the void of space, perfectly encapsulates the hollow grandiosity of his character. While Bond’s quip, “Take a giant step for mankind,” was a great tongue-in-cheek parting message showcasing Roger Moore’s signature wit.
