In Never Say Never Again, Bond orchestrates a clever diversion to transmit his emergency code, “Tango Zebra,” from Max Largo’s yacht.  His calculated move to kiss Domino to provoke Largo and infiltrate the command center was vintage Bond the secret agent.  However, the scene’s execution falters under the weight of its jarring funk soundtrack.  The choice of music feels tonally misplaced for a moment meant to exude tension and sophistication.  A traditional orchestral cue (or even an evocative 1980s pop track?) would have better grounded the scene.  It’s a great example of a Bond movie musical misstep, though it’s hard to say whether it’s more distracting than Domino’s nearly transparent dance attire.
