Spectre (2015)

Sono Topolino. E tu chi sei resti?

In Spectre, Bond dusts off his Italian in an amusing attempt to bluff his way past the doorman guarding the Spectre meeting in Rome. I always enjoy his confidence as he flashes the Spectre ring and jokingly introduces himself as Mickey Mouse. Unfortunately for Bond, his cover is already blown and his invitation appears to have been anticipated.

The movie never explains exactly how this happened, whether the doorman was specifically watching for Bond or whether someone higher up pieced everything together after his arrival. I lean toward the former, since Blofeld’s “welcome, James” and his remark that “suddenly this evening makes perfect sense” suggests he already knew Bond would follow Sciarra.

That’s a little disappointing because the setup promises an undercover infiltration before pulling the rug out almost immediately. I would’ve happily a few more scenes of Bond quietly observing Spectre’s inner workings before the inevitable confrontation.
