The newly released teaser for Michael B. Jordan’s take on The Thomas Crown Affair immediately has my James Bond radar beeping. Watching the teaser almost feels like Jordan was quietly auditioning for 007. Between the white dinner jacket that screams Bond in Goldfinger, the elegant Lake Como atmosphere reminiscent of Casino Royale, and several shadowy action and side-of-building fight shots that evoke Roger Deakins’ work on Skyfall, the Bond influences are hard to ignore.
I thoroughly enjoyed the 1999 version starring James Bond’s own Pierce Brosnan, who brought plenty of charm and fun to the role of the gentleman thief. Jordan’s version certainly looks intriguing, although the mood appears noticeably darker. But then again, do we really need a remake of a remake?
