Thumper Wants Monogamous Bond, Harkens Back Jinx

Although discussions about Bond’s female co-stars and female empowerment always seem to resurface before a new movie, I was genuinely surprised to see actress Trina Parks weighing in through a recent Telegraph interview. Parks played the campy acrobatic assassin Thumper, one half of the Bambi and Thumper pairing, that attacks Bond in Diamonds Are Forever. Whether she was attempting to spark debate or simply share her perspective, she’s become the latest Bond alum to offer unsolicited advice for Bond 26 by declaring that Bond should be monogamous to “reflect the modern world.”

She also suggested Halle Berry’s Jinx (shudders) from Die Another Day as a template for the next female role next to Bond to writer Steven Knight. My response would simply be, “Been there, done that, and it wasn’t great.” I’d rather see Bond embrace some of the vices that once made him unmistakably Bond, womanizing included, rather than continue the nearly domesticated direction of Daniel Craig’s final outings (although I guess that Bond died, right?).

Also, recycling a Jinx-like character feels about as forced as her infamous “yo mama” line.
