For Your Eyes Only (1983)

For your eyes only, darling

The end of For Your Eyes Only gives us one of the series’ more literal title drops as Melina Havelock softly recites it before she and Bond slip away for a “moonlight swim.” Unlike other instances of the title uttered in the movie related to classified files or a mission, this time it simply punctuates the movie’s romantic ending.

Before that, Bond cheekily abandons MI6 by leaving his wristwatch communicator with Max the parrot, who is shoehorned into the end of the movie after a few previous appearances of comic relief. Which isn’t surprising, considering Roger Moore Bond movies’ knack for showcasing the funny side of Bond. And although there have been some humorous Bond moments since Moore, nothing compares to the extent and consistency of humor in the Roger Moore era.

I doubt we’ll ever see a Max the parrot ever again.
