Dr. No is always near the top of my favorite Bond movies list, largely because of its confident simplicity. One of its most effective moments is the dialogue-free sequence where Bond stages his room to suggest he has company, quietly anticipating Professor Dent’s break-in. The gentle strains of “Underneath the Mango Tree” provide the perfect backdrop as Bond calmly prepares his trap.
What follows is his unforgettable confrontation with Dent, but the setup itself is just as satisfying. It proves that a well-crafted Bond scene doesn’t need a single line of dialogue to leave an impression.
