Time For 007

New Bond should be “refreshed,” not “reinvented”

The difference may be semantic, but it matters. James Bond doesn’t need a reinvention, he needs a refresh. The 007 character, the Bond movie formula, and the traditions that have sustained the series for more than 60 years are not problematic. Bond should still be Bond. Keep his history, his flaws, his vices, his gambling, his drinking, his complicated relationships, along with M, Q Branch, and the familiar ingredients that make a Bond movie unmistakably Bond.

Every new Bond actor era naturally brings updates and a new perspective, but removing the franchise’s defining traits in pursuit of reinvention risks creating a character that is no longer James Bond.

Here’s hoping for a “refreshed” Bond in Bond 26 and not a “reinvented” one.
