So yes, James Bond was apparently speaking the language of online gaming all the way back in Die Another Day. But he really shouldn’t have at all, in my opinion, so let me explain.
Technically, of course, Bond doesn’t use “GG” as shorthand for “good game,” he’s identifying Gustav Graves’ initials after spotting a laser etching on a conflict diamond taken from Zao’s necklace. My issue is that the etching doesn’t really look like “GG” at all, more just a depiction of a diamond. Unless Bond instantly decided the left side of the diamond looked like a “G” (it doesn’t really, does it?) and the right side of the diamond looked like a backwards “G” (how on earth would he know that?).
Bond’s microscopic detective work would’ve been more believable if Bond had simply remarked on the laser etching and let Raoul identify it as Graves’ logo.
Then again, this is exactly the sort of microscopic (pun intended) Bond movie detail that no reasonable fan should spend time thinking about, yet here I am, and here you are.
