Baccarat in the cards for Bond 26?

With Texas Hold ’em losing some of its post-Casino Royale sheen, Bond 26 has a timely opportunity to return James Bond to baccarat, the game most closely tied to Ian Fleming’s original vision. And if reports of a twenty-something James Bond actor come to fruition, he’d be ripe form naivete in many avenues, including card games.

Casual audiences may not know the rules, but 1954’s Casino Royale proved that a movie can teach the game without impeding momentum. Jimmy Bond’s brisk explanation of the game to Clarence Leiter in that movie offers a template for reintroducing baccarat to audiences. It may not be the flashiest game in the casino, but its simplicity and history suits Bond far better than any alternative. The plot doesn’t necessarily need to revolve around the game, but even a brief return to the baccarat table would be a celebrated nod to Bond’s past.
