This line from Bond in Tomorrow Never Dies is a fitting epitaph for Elliot Carver, a media baron who quite literally dies by the machinery of his own sensationalism. I actually tend to forget how Carver dies in the movie since the pacing falters at the end of the movie a bit. But Bond dispatches Carver after this quote, when Carver is horrifyingly pulverized at the hand of his Sea Drill.
Beyond the movie itself, the quote feels especially pointed as Amazon shapes the future of the Bond franchise with Bond 26. One has to wonder whether there’s a formal mechanism or team for gauging fan sentiment and relaying it to those steering the series. Ideally, audience voices are not just monitored but meaningfully considered. Hopefully some of our voices are heard!
