The People’s Bond Villain

What if Bond squared up against a villain who is less interested in world domination and more interested in exposing the world itself?

Instead of stroking a white cat in a secret bunker, this mastermind could become an online folk hero by leaking government secrets and publicly humiliating intelligence agencies. Bond would suddenly find himself in the awkward position of defending institutions that plenty of ordinary people no longer trust. That dynamic alone could give 007 his most morally complicated mission ever.

Of course, such a story risks making the movie feel too preachy and not a normal stylish spy adventure we’ve all come to know and love. But at the same time, it could be a worthwhile modern entry that avoids the pitfalls of anything involving “cyber” in a plotline.

Even with a younger actor stepping into Bond 26, I wouldn’t rule out some sly acknowledgment of Bond’s fate in No Time to Die. An updated spin on You Only Live Twice (implicitly acknowledging the sin of No Time To Die and dealing with it head on) could be exactly the kind of audacious move…
