For Your Eyes Only (1983)

Give us a kiss!

Few endings of any Bond movie are as gleefully absurd as the closing moments of For Your Eyes Only, where James Bond casually abandons a congratulatory phone call with the Prime Minister and a flirtatious parrot steals the scene. It’s the sort of cheeky flourish that defined the Roger Moore era with equal parts charm and unapologetic silliness.

After Daniel Craig’s dark and serious tenure, moments like this feel almost alien. The modern Bond traded whimsy for weight, often to great effect, but something undeniably distinctive was lost along the way. Should Bond return to that style of humor? Perhaps not in full, but a touch of that irreverence could remind the series that it once knew how to wink at itself without losing its cool.
