The Spy Who Loved Me (1977)

You did want me to drop in

This awesome quip from Bond to Stromberg in The Spy Who Loved Me is a perfect mic drop moment for 007, only outdone by his actions in the subsequent scene. Anticipating Stromberg’s elevator drop door to the shark tank, Bond says the above and avoids getting dropped down the elevator tube to be shark bait.

Stromberg is completely caught off guard by this, and blows another chance at killing Bond with his grenade tube of death at his elongated dinner table. Bond dispatches him with four shots in a scene that is less grandiose than typical villain send-offs but arguably more satisfying. Especially with Stromberg’s theatrical collapse and dramatic gyrations that ruins his dinner tray.

Dude was an asshole!  Too bad for the absurd plotlines.  The electro-suit comes to mind.  He could have stole the show in a toned-down Die Another Day.

Sanchez is an underrated Bond villain.  No one was as cruel. More drug kingpin villains please!  Fentanyl trafficking would be an easy sell to the audience and would be relevant as ever.
