The Living Daylights (1987)

Character Spotlight: Andreas Wisniewski as Necros

Andreas Wisniewski’s Necros in The Living Daylights remains, in my view, one of the most underrated and versatile henchman of any James Bond movie. He is a ruthless assassin and drug smuggler who changes his identity to suit his needs and his agenda, portraying an American jogger, a Cockney milkman, a professional sounding MI6 Agent, a flight medic, a balloon salesman, a lighting technician and even a transplant doctor, most of the time rocking out to almost his own theme, The Pretenders’ “Where Has Everybody Gone” on his Walkman.

His most audacious and memorable guise, however, is unquestionably the milkman infiltration at the MI6 safe house. It’s a well-executed extraction, with Necros first gaining entry through routine familiarity, then unleashing chaos with those brilliantly conceived exploding milk bottles, killing two in the process. The sequence is darkly inventive and the kind of set piece that elevates a minion henchman almost to a standalone villain.

Whoever conceived the Necros character crafted perfection, as he doesn’t just support the story, he steals scenes and leaves a lasting impression.
