Dr. No (1962)

Minnows pretending they’re whales. Just like you…

Bond’s retort to Dr. No is a razor-sharp line, and one of the most incisive early demonstrations of Bond’s psychological gamesmanship.  Throughout their exchange, Bond deliberately prods and needles Dr. No, fully aware that the doctor recognizes the tactic, who even comments on it outright.  The result is one of the most intellectually charged Bond/villain conversations in the entire series.  It’s remarkable not only for its content but also for the fact that it appears in the very first Bond movie, and in my view, scenes like this are a key reason Dr. No still resonates.
